CSD Parents,
It has come to the attention of the superintendent and CSD administrators that there is some confusion related to the possibility of CSD applying for Charter System status and the implications that HR 900 would have on the City Schools of Decatur. To clarify, HR 900 is a completely separate issue from SB 39 (Charter Systems Act). If it were passed, HR 900 would have a heavy impact on the City Schools of Decatur and the way that the district is funded. However at this time it doesnât have any effect on CSD in its exploration of becoming a Charter System.
The Charter System Act is separate and distinct. If approved by the CSD School Board, it would provide the school district with greater flexibility, more site-based management opportunities at each school and a greater ability to design programs and instructional offerings at the local level.
